Border-city mayors have called for the regulations to be lifted for years
The federal government says it's dropping all COVID-19 measures at borders on Saturday, meaning travellers will no longer need to provide proof of vaccination when entering Canada or wear masks on planes and trains.

“We feel it’s very important to be able to organize this type of event and really invite the public to come and experience … a cultural exchange,” said Beverly Horodyski of Tourism Sarnia-Lambton, co-host of the Oct. 1 First Nations Cultural Tourism event along with theTecumseh Community Development Corporation, an organization that helps with business development and growth in southern Ontario First Nations.
“It’s an opportunity to kind of work towards sharing information about First Nations, learning and really experiencing” heritage and traditions, Horodyski said.
For instance, dancers in traditional regalia will be performing, as well as teaching people the steps needed to dance along, she said.

“Reliable access to high-speed internet is essential for rural Canadians’ growth and development,” said Arielle Kayabaga, Member of Parliament for London West, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities. “Our government’s investment in these broadband infrastructure upgrades will help hundreds of homes, farms, and businesses in Middlesex and Lambton counties access reliable high-speed internet services. Working remotely, studying online, reaching customers, and monitoring crops and livestock are some of the many activities that will be more practical and convenient for residents in the region.”
In Lambton County, both levels of government have each invested more than $741,000 to provide more than 1,000 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Ravenswood, Gustin Grove, Cedar Point, Glendale Beach, Hillsborough Beach and Highland Glen, with access to high-speed internet service.
“Our government is getting it done and delivering on its commitment to provide access to high-speed internet throughout rural Ontario,” said Lisa Thompson, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “Projects like these in Lambton and Middlesex counties, that connect more communities to high-speed internet, are crucial to building a stronger Ontario. We’re helping families and farmers stay in touch with loved ones, enabling them to access supports, while providing a much-needed boost to the local economy.”
In 2021 the Sarnia Street Cruiser's 900 members wanted to do something for the kids who had already given up too much during COVID and decided to host a “Trunk or Treat” at Canatara Park for Halloween. They originally expected only a few hundred kids - but after the event went viral, they had more than 6,000 kids come through in under 2 hours!
This year they want to put on the biggest Trunk or Treat event ever and they have already formed a Trunk or Treat committee and secured Hiawatha to allow them to better manage the vehicle traffic and flow of kids. The event will be held on Saturday, October 29th, with a rain date of October 30th.
The Sarnia Street Cruisers need our help!! They need help purchasing all that candy or receiving donation to support their event. They are not a registered charity or business so they cannot provide a receipt however this is a great opportunity to get involved in a highly visible event in our community. Throughout the fall & winter they will have regular “Business Spotlight” posts of businesses who supported them.
