What's New This Week - May 05, 2022

SUNRIPE Sarnia has received a prestigious award from the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers.

Sunripe received the 2021 Grocer of the Year Specialty Store Gold Award during a conference and award ceremony in Vancouver late last month.  The criterion for judging includes things like innovation, customer service and online presence and so much more.  This is not the first time the Sarnia location has won the prestigious award.  The Sarnia location won in 2012 and their other lotions have won in 2015.

Sunripe has a rich history in the city and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.  Founded in 1982 with $2,000 cash, a $10,000 loan from a friend and a 1978 Ford Econoline van. They are fantastic supporters many community events.

The Willemsen family also runs two stores in London, one on Fanshawe Park Road in the Hyde Park area and the other on Adelaide Street at Oxford Street.

Congratulations to a well-deserved award!!

International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development announced a call for applications to deliver the Inclusive Women Venture Capital Initiative (IWVCI), a new $15 million investment under the $6 billion Women Entrepreneurship Strategy.

Applications are open to Canadian not-for-profit organizations. Applications from organizations working in partnership are also welcome. For further details on eligibility and the application process, see the IWVCI application guide.

DYK that women-owned businesses currently receive just 2.8% of venture capital (VC) funding available worldwide, and an estimated 4% of VC funding in Canada? Women are also under-represented among equity investors, representing only 15.2% of Canadian VC partners and 16.7% of Canadian angel investors.

The IWVCI is a three-year program to build a more inclusive VC environment for Canadian women entrepreneurs. It will support projects that help strengthen he capacity of women entrepreneurs to access VC funding, contribute to increasing the representation of women in the VC industry or help ensure that the VC industry is sensitive to gender and potential unconscious bias.
