New Federal Tourism Growth Strategy
June 07, 2022

The Government of Canada has begun to take comments and recommendations on their new Tourism Growth Strategy following the publishing of the 2022 Budget. The formal engagement period, which began on May 18, is intended to gather information about which areas of the industry Canadians believe need the most help. The engagement period is being led by the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance.

The main goals of the Tourism Growth Strategy will be to improve the amount of labour available to destinations as well as provide them with the ability to develop the infrastructure necessary to facilitate the eventual increase in tourism. As an industry that has been proven to be an important economic driver in Canada, it is important that the government fully utilizes the tourism industry as a tool to continue helping the country recover after the pandemic. This includes supports for medium and small businesses that greatly benefit from increased traffic through tourism.

The formal engagement period is intended for stakeholders, business owners, and the general public to have their say in how they would like to see the growth strategy designed and implemented.

In order to provide comments, please email tourisminfo-tourismeinfo@ised-isde.gc.ca no later than 11:59 pm (ET) on July 20, 2022.
