Ontario Leveraging Hydrogen to Power Jobs, Growth and Energy Security

Province ensuring affordable, secure, reliable and clean energy supply as part of its plan to protect Ontario

Today, the Ontario government announced its plans to expand the province’s hydrogen energy advantage to ensure the province has affordable, secure, reliable and clean energy to build new homes and support economic growth. Accelerating the growth of Ontario’s low-carbon hydrogen sector is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario, which includes an integrated energy plan that will meet the province’s growing electricity needs and strengthen Ontario’s long-term energy security to reduce reliance on energy providers from outside the province.

Q1 GDP Growth Offers Hope Ahead of Trade War

Canada’s economy posted stronger-than-expected growth of 2.2% (annualized) in Q1, driven largely by a rise in goods exports.

However, signs of a broader slowdown are emerging. Consumer spending is easing, housing activity remains subdued, and business investment continues to be uneven.

In his latest commentary, BDC Principal Economist Andrew DiCapua suggests that a rate cut from the Bank of Canada may be necessary to support continued momentum and keep the domestic economy on track.
