SARNIA, ON – July 6, 2026 – The Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce is encouraged to see Sarnia-Lambton identified as a key destination in the proposed Northern Shield Energy Corridor announced today by the Government of Ontario.

The proposal includes a 3,300-kilometre pipeline from Hardisty, Alberta, to Sarnia, Ontario, with an initial capacity of approximately 500,000 barrels per day and the potential for future expansion. The proposed corridor would connect Western Canadian energy production with Ontario’s refining and petrochemical sector, including Sarnia-Lambton’s established energy and industrial infrastructure.

As home to Canada’s largest integrated refining and petrochemical cluster, Sarnia-Lambton has significant industrial infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and extensive expertise across the energy and manufacturing sectors, positioning the region to play an important role in discussions about Canada’s energy and economic future.

“This announcement recognizes the strategic importance of Sarnia-Lambton within Canada’s energy economy,” said Steve Crozier, Interim CEO of the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce. “Our region has the infrastructure, skilled workforce, and industrial expertise that have made Sarnia-Lambton a centre of Canadian energy and industry for generations. We are encouraged to see our region identified as a key destination for proposed major infrastructure investment and look forward to learning more about the proposal and what it could mean for Sarnia-Lambton as the feasibility study progresses.”

The Chamber recognizes that investments in critical infrastructure can support economic growth, resilient domestic supply chains, and new opportunities for businesses and communities. Should the proposed corridor proceed, its development could present opportunities for local suppliers, manufacturers, construction firms, service providers, and workers throughout the region.

The Chamber also recognizes that projects of this scale require meaningful consultation with Indigenous communities, environmental stewardship, and collaboration among governments, industry, businesses, and local and affected communities. The proposed corridor remains at an early stage, and continued study, consultation, and engagement will be important to understand its potential economic, environmental, and community implications.
