Deputy Prime Minister Outlines Government’s Affordability Plan for Canadians

Last week, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, highlighted the government’s Affordability Plan—a suite of measures totaling $8.9 billion in new support this year to help make life more affordable for millions of Canadians.

The measures in this Affordability Plan include:

  1. Enhancing the Canada Workers Benefit
  2. Affordable Early Learning and Child Care
  3. A 10 Per Cent Increase to Old Age Security (OAS)
  4. A Housing Affordability Payment
  5. Dental Care for Canadians
  6. Benefits That Are Indexed to Inflation

These supports build on other investments that the government has delivered since 2015 that are today helping to make life more affordable for Canadians.

Budget 2022 also includes a comprehensive plan to make housing more affordable and outlines investments focused on growing a more resilient economy that will mean more good-paying jobs for Canadians.

WSIB Doubles Rebates for Small Businesses Enrolled the Health and Safety Excellence Program

The WSIB has introduced new incentives for Small-Medium Sized Businesses with 99 employees or less to join the Health and Safety Excellence program (HSEp).

  • Giving each Business $1,000 towards the costs of their health and safety plan
  • Increasing the maximum rebates from 75 percent to 100 percent of the total WSIB premiums that a business paid the previous year
  • Doubling the rebates for each program topic completed in 2022
  • Applying the rebate increases retroactively for every topic finished since March 2020 for businesses that create a 2022 action plan

The intention of these programs is to offset the HSEp registration fee and encourage more Ontario businesses to implement preventative measures aimed at eliminating injury and illness in the workplace.

The deadline is December 31, 2022.
